Baseball Size Crab Cakes (95% Real Lump Crab šŸ‘ŒšŸ¾)

As a person who has lived in the DMV area, specifically Maryland and DC, finding a place with Maryland quality food is hard to come by when you’re not in the area. I was thrilled to stumble upon LuLu’s Maryland Style Chicken and Seafood in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a small spot with big flavor established in 2019. Although the inside isn’t offering dine in service right now, curbside is available. From what I could see most people were eating in the parking lot and I couldn’t blame them after my food came out. The nosegasm was real.

The interior is tight but full of character. There’s a large chalkboard inside where many have left their instagram handles. You’ll also see some nice spray painted art in between tables. There aren’t many tables inside so I’m sure once they open indoor dining back up it will be hard to secure a table. The lines are long but they move quickly.

Okay, now for the food. I ordered a crab cake and the crab fries. I know it might not seem like much but don’t be mislead. The crab cake was the size of a baseball and the fact it was 95% crabmeat is a HUGE deal, especially when you aren’t right on the coast. Charlotte is located in central NC and real lump crabmeat is a rarity. I was thoroughly pleased with the amount of real crab, not Alaskan cod, I received. It was falling apart which was no problem and seasoned perfectly with old bay.

Crab Cake

The crab fries exceeded my expectations. Crinkle cut fries topped with two different sauces, lump crabmeat and cilantro. I could’ve just eaten this by itself from how good it was. Whoever came up with this recipe was smart because who would’ve thought to put crab and fries together? The looks match the taste, you won’t be disappointed after ordering this. My drink of choice was a fresh lemonade, with the perfect amount of tartness to match its sweetness.

Crab Fries

I was highly surprised to experience such mouthwatering seafood without being on the coast but LuLu’s definitely delivered. They also serve chicken boxes which is a big thing in Maryland and even though I didn’t order any, the smells let me know it was on point as well. Charlotte has many restaurants to offer but none are topping this place when it comes to the amount of crabmeat they’re serving up. Don’t be mistaken by the long line, it’s worth the wait and the lines move pretty quickly. Regardless if you’re eating in the car or make it home you won’t be disheartened by anything on LuLu’s menu. Per usual… tell them the Hedonist Chronicles sent you.
