Bourbon me, please!

There’s a lot I can talk about when it comes to my hometown, Louisville, Kentucky. I’ll skip the Derby and the Slugger talk and get straight into the food. And no, I’m not talking about Kentucky Fried Chicken, I’m talking about Bourbon’s Bistro, the restaurant with over 130 bourbons to choose from as well as seasonal bourbon inspired dishes to give you a buzz and a stomach full.

Although Bourbon’s Bistro didn’t open until 2005, the building it’s in has been around since 1877. The decor features exposed brick and barrels with the tops around the whole place. The full bar features backless barstools and is in the front when you walk in. There is intimate indoor seating and outdoor seating is also available.

Okay, on to why I came, the food. After enjoying a refreshing Caesar salad, out came the wings. These aren’t your ordinary wings. These are the Knob Creek Maple Bacon Wings. Consisting of fried chicken wings, housemate bourbon bbq sauce with chopped bacon. There is mouthwatering flavor in every bite.

Next up, the Chilean Salmon, another palatable choice. Wild caught Chilean salmon over butternut squash risotto, dried cranberries, pepitas and crumbled goat cheese. Each ingredient complimented the next in this dish.

The last pick at Bourbon’s was the Filet of Beef. The filet is pan seared to temperature and topped with sage brown butter, a balsamic reduction, herb and Parmesan fingering potatoes and jumbo asparagus. The steak was very juicy and the sides were a favorable addition.

It isn’t a secret as to why this is a place I’ve come to love over the last few years. They even have a daily happy hour from 4:30-7 pm featuring $4 off appetizers, $3 off bourbon, $2 off glasses of wine and bottled beer. Yeah, they aren’t going anywhere and they even deem themselves Louisvilles foremost bourbon bar and we definitely see why.
