Big Bourbon at Bardstown

Located about an hour outside of Louisville, Kentucky, you’ll find Bardstown Bourbon Company, the most high tech distillery in America. There’s a huge campus, offering not only bourbon, but also a kitchen and speakeasy. With its modern ambiance, soft leather couches and “library” of bourbon, a good time is inevitable. Bardstown Bourbon Company was established in 2019 and is already making a name for itself. We came out for Sunday Brunch and the experience was satisfactory.

Before getting into the bourbon at BBC, you must know the kitchen is on point. There’s around 10 entrees to choose from ranging from filet mignon to shrimp and grits. Bardstown Bourbon Co utilizes locally sourced farmers and make mention to them on their menu. A nice touch in my opinion.

The first thing we tried was the smoked brisket sandwich which basically melted in my mouth. It consisted of barrel smoked brisket, Scout and Scholar ale, bourbon BBQ, pickled red onion and slaw on a cubano roll with fries. This bourbon infused sandwich smelled just as good as it tasted and I could tell it was freshly smoked. Definitely recommend.

Next up was the Bardstown club, made with country ham, turkey, bacon, American and swiss cheese and bourbon mustard stuffed between 16 Bricks sourdough. This isn’t your typical club. The country ham and bourbon mustard take it to a higher level and that fresh bread? I’m here for it. Plus, you can never go wrong with a good sandwich before or while drinking.

We also tried the hummingbird cupcake which was the right amount of sweet and was topped with pecans. A nice ending to a meal and the beginning of a drinking session.

We started with a semi dry cider, fermented with champagne yeast and was a mere 6%. It was tasty and didn’t leave my stomach bubbling, proving they know what they’re doing at Bardstown Bourbon Company. We followed up the cider with the Pear-adise cocktail. It was on the stronger side in a good way, created with seasonal slushee bourbon, pear syrup and bitters. A refreshing drink to go along with the beautilful scenery surounding BBC.

I can’t come to a distillery without going on a tour. We had the BBCo. Flight tasting with four different bourbons. We were also able to do one ounce pours straight from the barrels in the “library” of bourbon which range from a few dollars to thousands. Definitely an enjoyable experience worth trying. Bardstown Bourbon Company is like that whether you want a bite to eat, a bottle (or three), or just a tasting. They have enough room for locals and vacationers.
