It’s been a while but don’t think I haven’t been traveling. I’m back in Kentucky for yet another round of bomb ass food. This time I hit up River House in Louisville, Kentucky. This restaurants name fits perfectly due to its location beside the Ohio river. Enjoying a breeze is a regular thing when dining on the multiple outdoor patios. There are both covered and uncovered patios featuring a fireplace and other staples.
The interior has an industrial feel with exposed ceilings and deep windows. There are two full bars, one rectangular and one circular because the place is just that huge. The lighting is dim throughout the restaurant with different light fixtures throughout.
I know y’all want to know what the menu was looking like so let’s get into it. First thing on the list were the “V” Style Oysters. They were baked with crab, spinach and artichokes. This delicate appetizer was full of flavor and exceeded my exceptions. They were also nicely sized. Highly recommended!

The next appetizer was sautéed mussels. These were tossed in chipotle lime broth with diced tomatoes, cilantro and a grilled baguette. The baguette paired perfectly with the mussels and they were seasoned well and didm’t taste gummy. River House knows what they’re doing with these appetizers.

Now on to the third and last appetizer. Yes, this menu is vast enough to try more than two apps. The last thing before the main course was the grilled octopus. No chewiness here, I was able to chew with ease and fully enjoy the freshness of the octopus. These are paired with twice fried fingerling potatoes, bacon artichoke vinaigrette and garlic aioli. A very nice way to transition to the main course.

Okay, I’m sure you’re wondering what else I could’ve ordered after all that. How about a grilled NY strip steak? The steak comes grilled anyway you’d like with smoked bacon and caramelized onion jam and fried mac and cheese. I got the sauce on the side (it was a nice addition) and was pleased with the tenderness of the strip.

With all that good food you know a drink was involved. I had a mango mojito which is just like the signature berry mojito but with mango. It was blended well and not strong at all. The cocktail menu is reasonably priced and has a vast array of options. River House also has an extensive wine list, most are only available by the bottle.

Overall the River House Raw Bar is a must try. With amazing views of numerous docks on the Ohio River this is a place you can relax and eat well. There is an ample amount of seating and most people will want to eat outside to enjoy the scenery. The menu has plenty to choose from and will satisfy all dining needs even if you’re not a fan of seafood. You can add this to the list of places in my hometown to try for a nice date night or a solo spoiling session. Either way, River House will have you wanting to come back.
