What do you think of when you hear San Juan Puerto Rico? If beautiful beaches, warm weather and pina coladas come to your mind you are on the right track. I experienced all of that on my recent travel there. Would you believe I spent l less than $500 for my entire trip?! 4 days of food, drinks and fun in the sun. So, if you want to visit but afraid of the cost, do not be it’s a very inexpensive stay for a caribbean getaway and hedonist activities.

If you love Pina Coladas, here is a fun fact. The first Pina Colada was made in Barracchina. San Juan is home to the Bacardi rum factory. So of course, it is the preferred liquor of choice. Do not worry for those who are not Bacardi fans, there are plenty of other liquor choices to choose from. The drink menu had mixes of Pina Colada with mixes from Captain Morgan to Hennessy. I love the fact that the Pina Coladas are served in the pineapple. Personally, I think they taste better that way.

Upon arrival they have a red carpet laid out that says
Restaurant Barrachina
Birthplace of the famous Pina Colada 1963
I love fun facts! So of course I took a picture the carpet to show ya’ll

One of the island classics is the selection of Mofongo, a twist on plantain. Which was cool, however I never had a stuffed plantain. They stuff the plantains with chicken, seafood, or shrimp. I had to have them all. My main course was a whole red Snapper fried with garlic and spices. Omg! I was in heaven the way the spices smelled and tasted. The dessert menu was interesting. Cornbread and ice cream and cookies and cheesecake caught my eyes immediately. Those combinations are weird asf to me, but you cannot beat the price of less than $10.

My trip was truly amazing. Here is a traveling trip for those who rely strictly on Uber and Lyft when traveling. You must utilize local taxis. Yea I know who wants to hail cabs or call cab services. Uber is fairly new in San Juan, so the range is most likely limited, and Lyft is nonexistent. Do not worry every taxi sis owned by a native, so they know where they are going. (This was probably one of the pain in the ass parts of my trips.) Overall, I enjoyed myself for 4 days on an inexpensive getaway. If you ever visit, make sure ya’ll get to Barrachina to experience low-cost food and drinks in a very chilled environment
