Washington D.C. is famous for being our nation’s capital. It’s filled with the hustle and bustle of most American cities, but one things sets it apart… Ivy City Smokehouse. We visited the restaurant a few weeks ago to find out about the localized dishes it’s recognized for.

One of the best things about Ivy City Smokehouse is their versatile menu! From their fried shrimp po’ boys to the Prince Edward Island (PEI) mussels, everything you guzzle down is sure to please your seafood loving palate.
In the picture below, you can see we chowed down on the lobster that came complete with side of melted butter, toasted french bread and homemade coleslaw. When the lobster arrived to our table, it was already split so we were able to dig in without getting our hands dirty. I felt so classy and wasn’t even wearing a bib.

For round two, we chowed down on a pound of chicken wings that were first smoked at the restaurant and then fried. The tiny morsels were flavored with hickory and applewood smoke and served with Alabama white sauce on the side. Unlike traditional chicken wings that come drenched in buffalo or barbecue sauce, these wings upheld a sense of dignity as we wrapped our lips around them.

When it comes to Ivy City Smokehouse, I saved the best for last… the crab cakes. The only thing I want to warn you about is that the price of the crab cakes varies based on the season. Despite this minor inconsistency, these fresh cakes, full of Maryland steamed jumbo lump crab meat will not let you down. In case the crab cakes are not filling enough, they came served alongside fingerling potatoes and asparagus.

It’s true, D.C. is my second home and with restaurants like Ivy City Smokehouse, it’s nearly impossible to stay away.
